Prosthodontics, which refer to dental replacements such as bridges, dentures, and implants, can be either fixed or removable. Each type has its advantages and its drawbacks. At Attentive Dental Care, we are pleased to offer you a variety of choices to suit your needs and your budget. When you have teeth that are missing- either due to extractions, accident, or trauma, it alters your appearance and can make you feel self-conscious, particularly if they are front teeth. But even if they are not visible to other people, those empty spaces can cause your teeth to shift. This can be uncomfortable or even painful in some instances. Whatever your motivation, our Morris Plains cosmetic dentist, Dr. Karey P. Matthews will work with you to recommend the best dental restorative for your situation.
Removable prosthodontics are better known as dentures. They can be full dentures, as in a replacement for your entire upper or lower set of teeth, or they can be partials, also known as a removable bridge. You can take them out of your mouth to clean them and at night when you sleep. They are held in place with the use adhesive. Our Morris Plains cosmetic dentist will take an impression of your mouth and that will be sent out to a dental lab to fashion your dentures. The result will be a fit that is designed just for you. Dentures have been around for a long time and they are a reliable and effective restorative.
Fixed prosthodontics include both bridges and dental implants. Unlike a removable bridge, a fixed bridge is anchored in your mouth using the teeth on either side of the missing one(s). Those teeth are drilled down and a crown is then placed on them. This allows the new bridge to be supported properly. It is then cemented onto your gums for a secure fit. Dental implants are the most recent development in dental restoratives. Using a post that is fused to your jaw bone, the implant is then placed on that post. It has the advantage of looking and feeling just like your natural teeth do and requires no drilling of the surrounding teeth. A consultation with our Morris Plains cosmetic dentist will help you to determine the right choice for you: fixed or removable; dentures, bridge, or implant.
